The Catwalk is No More

In a recent post, ironically titled Desert Dwellers in Search of Water, I told you about our visit to the Catwalk Trail along Whitewater Creek in Glenwood, New Mexico. We were lucky to have seen and walked this historic trail, because the recent disastrous flooding has wiped it out.

Thanks go to Facebook friend, Alison, for alerting me to the terrible situation.

Oh, this is terrible, Clair! There has been so much damage and destruction this summer with the weather! Hope you're safe where you are!

Clair, that is so sad! We have kids in Boulder County..they were evacuated for one day but no damage to their house... So o course I have been following the CO situation closely but honestly just became aware that New Mexico was also deeply affected. Devastating.

I hope I would have the same compassion even if I had never even seen the affected areas, but having spent time in these places (and loving them) brings it home immediately. Just heart-breaking.

OMW, this is so sad. I've heard there has been tremendous destruction due to floods. We had some floods of great magnitude in Alberta early in the summer too.

That is so unbelievable. Impossible for me to imagine what two stories of water is like.

That is sounding a lot like what we've been through around here but a flash flood in a slot canyon must be absolutely incredible. I hope that the catwalk is rebuilt!
